People & Planet Sheffield

There has been a People & Planet society at The University of Sheffield for 15 years! They are a local group supported by a national organisation and have campaigned on university based, regional and global issues. Using a variety of tactics including rallies, visual actions, petitioning and organising events such as debates, the group has successfully campaigned for: - Full University of Sheffield divestment from fossil fuel companies in 2015 - No bottled water on sale at the Students’ Union - A Students’ Union wide boycott of Barclays Bank due to their funding of the fossil fuel industry - The University of Sheffield to become the first UK university to affiliate to The Workers Rights Consortium - The University of Sheffield to become the 11th UK university to individually affiliate to Electronics Watch The society also provide support and training for activists through workshops, welfare events, and an annual Power Shift weekend.
