Suzie Wheway of Peak Swims will be talking with Gilly McArthur and Fenwick Ridley about all things winter swimming. They’ll cover their lives as winter swimmers, why they do it, how they do it and the richness it brings to their lives in the depths of a British winter. There will be myth busting galore!

Gilly McArthur is, in her own words, a Cold Water Pusher. She is an open water swim coach, rock climber and a lover of the cold icy tarns of the Lake District as well as the calm, lowland lakes of Cumbria. Gilly has swum every day in January for the last four years to raise money for MIND the mental health charity. She is also the star of the iconic new documentary film Body of Water, following Gilly through the mental and physical journey of remote winter ice swimming.

Fenwick Ridley is a machine of the cold-water swimming world. He can regularly be found wallowing in an ice hole over winter or fine tuning his long distance ice swimming (he’s been aiming for a mile of butterfly in 5C water for a while). When he’s not brandishing an ice axe Fenwick also runs an outdoor swimming venue in Northumberland where he introduces people to the wonder of the outdoor swimming world year round.

Suzie can be found dipping her way through life in the Peak District in sun, rain, wind, hail or snow. Whatever the weather, as far as Suzie’s concerned, swimming will make it even better. Her love for the water is passed on through her business Peak Swims where she coaches and guides people into the wonders of the watery world. Suzie is also an Outdoor Swimming Ambassador for Swim England and campaigner for better inland access for the Outdoor Swimming Society.
