SWIMMING IN RESERVOIRS - WORKING WITH WATER COMPANIES

As the days get shorter and the evenings darker, we've planned a series of free-to-register pay as you feel talks to keep you informed, inspired and entertained. On 28 November, Sheffield OUtdoor Plungers (SOUP) wild swim team return to discuss the access issues encountered when swimming in reservoirs - a must for anyone planning to swim throughout the winter.

Despite Yorkshire Water forbidding it and actively trying to deter us, many thousands of us swim in their 120+ reservoirs. Whether or not we have permission to swim is somewhat irrelevant. The focus now is on how best to promote safe and responsible use of open water, as the popularity of outdoor swimming continues to rise. How can we persuade Yorkshire Water to work with swimmers, not against us? Four swimmers have been in positive dialogue with the water company over the past few years. This is a chance to meet them, hear about what they’re working on and what they hope to achieve.

On Monday 28 November Owen Hayman, founder of Sheffield OUtdoor Plungers (SOUP) and Outdoor Swimming Society Inland Access Officer will host this online discussion with Fiona Weir, former NHS national strategy lead, Isobel Howie, senior local public health professional, Imogen Radford, Outdoor Swimming Society Inland Access Officer and Suzie Wheway, Open water swimming coach and venue operator, Swim England Outdoor Swimming Ambassador.

Pre-registration is recommended as past swim talks quickly reached capacity.
