On September 20, 2023, Jakob Schubert makes climbing history by doing the first ascent of “B.I.G.”, formerly known as “Project Big” in Flatanger. Originally bolted by Adam Ondra a decade ago, the route was regarded as a contender for becoming one of the most demanding climbing routes in the world. While in 2022 Schubert and Ondra famously join forces on the project, Jakob goes all in on a different setting the following year, bringing along to Norway not only a film crew but also the vision of livestreaming his attempts, adding an extra challenge to a project that was on the borderline of the impossible on its own. Drawing on his experience with high-pressure competition that formed him as an athlete and human, Jakob embraces the challenge and pushes for an unprecedented moment in climbing history. The film not only captures Jakob’s spectacular first ascent of one of the world’s hardest routes but also offers an intimate glimpse into the mental world of climbing’s extraordinary athletes.
Sustainability Notes:
Our climbing film about a first ascent in Norway was produced with sustainability in mind. We kept the crew very small to minimize travel-related emissions and relied on local resources wherever possible. The film itself highlights the beauty and vulnerability of the Norwegian landscape, encouraging climbers and outdoor enthusiasts to minimize their impact and protect nature for future generations.
