The first of two sessions dedicated to the best new running films. From elite to the back of the pack and beyond, this session presents four very different tales from ultra trails around the world.

In Hielos professional mountain runner Fernanda Maciel takes on a brutal mountain route in Patagonia, and Ultra Dad documents one man's attempt at the Western States 100. Meanwhile in Normal People Would Drive, a group of middle aged back-of-the-pack women take on an ultra endurance desert race in Australia, and Free To Run highlights the transformative power of sport for women in a troubled Afghanistan.

This session complements Run Films 2, a second selection of the best new running films, as diverse runners find their own meaning and purpose through running.
