Our Judges say:
A family camping trip to Yosemite - with the camp being half way up El Capitan. Beautiful, cute and occasionally terrifying. One of the best films of this year.Paul Hodgson Music Judge
As part of their year of education through adventure - professional climber Leo Houlding shares his favourite place with his favourite people. From homeschooling at 2000ft to portaledge snow ball fights - Jackson and Freya scale the Muir Wall on El Capitan, supported by Mum, Jess and dad, Leo (with help from Xander Bianchi and Wilson Cutbirth). The first in a 3 part series of short films documenting the families expeditions, “Big Walls and Bedtime Stories” will explore how, given the opportunity, children are far more capable than most realise and can accomplish extraordinary things (with a good dose of parenting realities along the way!). The series will explore our ever increasing disconnection from nature and risk, and how fundamental these things are for strengthening our mind, body and soul for life’s challenges away from the wall. Come and hang out with the family!
Sustainability Notes:
The small team on this film has ensured minimal impact. Footage was self shot by the family ensuring no additional crew were flown anywhere, and the post production was carried out remotely in my home office, with calls and meetings being conducted online. The call to action from a sustainability point of view is to encourage the younger generation and parents to get outside and connect with nature. We often only love and care for that which we know.
