SOuP

Wild swimming, cold water dipping, dunking, winter swimming… Whatever your preference for swimming might be, the Sheffield Outdoor Plungers (SOuP) has you covered. SOuP is an online community that was formed with the aim to create friendships and share swimming information. The group was started by Owen Hayman a few years ago, as a way for him to find like-minded people after moving to Sheffield from Swansea. Now with over 12,000 members who regularly meet up on a weekly, even daily basis, the SOuP Facebook group has taken on a life of its own. This short film, featuring Owen Hayman and some of the members of SOuP, explores the appeal of the group’s community, the physical and mental health benefits, access issues, the safety elements of cold water swimming and why it’s so important to the people who do it.
